L'aéroport International d'Accra
L'aéroport international Kotoka d'Accra a été baptisé en l'honneur du Lieutenant-Général Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka (1926-1967), membre du Conseil national de Libération tué lors d'une tentative de coup d'Etat à l'endroit qui est aujourd'hui le parvis de l'aéroport.
L'aéroport international Kotoka d'Accra est le plus grand aéroport du Ghana. Son code international (code IATA) est ACC. Son code OACI est DGAA.
La zone aéroportuaire de l'aéroport d'Accra s'étend sur environ 300 hectares pour un périmètre sécurisé d'environ 10km. Sa piste de 3400 mètres permet d'accueillir les plus gros porteurs tels que le Boeing 747.
L'aéroport Kotoka d'Accra fait preuve d'un grand dynamisme et sa fréquentation n'a cessé de croître au fil des décennies. En 2016 plus de 3 millions de passagers ont transité par ses terminaux et plusieurs compagnies en ont fait leur base pour desservir le Ghana et les destinations étrangères. Pour permettre un développement de ces activités dans les meilleures conditions, la construction d'un nouveau terminal (le terminal 3) a commencé en 2016. Cette construction s'est achevée en 2018 et le Terminal 3 a été ouvert au public en septembre 2018.
L'aéroport d'Accra est composé de cinq terminaux :
- Le terminal 1 qui desservait principalement des destinations intérieures et régionales, a été fermé le 8 octobre 2018, les activités des compagnies aériennes nationales étant passées du terminal 1 au terminal 2.
- Le terminal 2 était utilisé pour les destinations internationales et les vols long-courriers. Il est équipé de commerces et services (salons VIP, boutiques, duty free, restaurants). Le nouveau Terminal 3 ayant été récemment inauguré, le Terminal 2 est désormais le nouveau terminal domestique de l'aéroport Kotoka d'Accra.
- Le terminal 3, inauguré en 2018, est le nouveau terminal international. Il comprend cinq niveaux répartis sur une superficie de 48 268 m². Des installations ultramodernes pouvant accueillir 5 millions de passagers par an et 1 250 passagers par heure, six ponts d'embarquement et une surface commerciales de 7 000 m² offrent confort et sécurité à un nombre croissant de passagers.
- Le terminal officiel est utilisé pour les vols diplomatiques, l'accueil de personnalités et des chefs d'Etat et de gouvernement.
- Le terminal militaire géré par l'Armée de l'air du Ghana est quant à lui dédié aux opérations aériennes des différents corps d'armée.
